That's a hard one. Because I really really want to have kids, but if I knew they would get whatever serious disease I had, maybe it would be my responsibility to not pass it on. At least there's always adoption.

This assumes I want to reproduce, and depends on the chance of passing on the disease as well as the severeity of the disease.

IVF doesn't produce gametes... zygotes u mean.. or maybe I'm missing something. To answer the question, it would depend how serious the disease was.

Well, as long as the Mrs. didn't have the disease as well... then maybe screen her to see if she's carrying the recessive gene.

Depends on the disease. If it was like AIDS then definantly not. I would love to have kids but not ones who have to suffer their whole life because of something I gave them. I would choose to adopt.

It's doubtful I'm going to reproduce anyway, but if I felt the need for kids, I wouldn't risk it.

Even if I really wanted kids (I don't) then I wouldn't take the chance.

depends on the chances of it getting passed down and how serious the illness

Depends on the disease. Cancer runs in my maternal family line, but I had children...

I didn't know I was carring a disease untill my sister died of it in 1981 and my daughter was allready borned. It was a shock to find this out. Plus I was expossed to agent orange and other chemicals when I was in Nam. Didn't know that untill later in life. I could remember them spraying the stuff but didn't know what it was.

No. It wouldn't be fair to my offspring and/or their children. If I really REALLY wanted a baby, I would adopt.

Depends on the disease, but probably not. I could adopt after all.
